While dark fiber requires the customer to put their own equipment on it to “light it up,” lit fiber has the equipment provided by the vendor (leased fiber). It is usually sold in 1 Gig and 10 Gig increments. With dark fiber you choose the equipment (which can make a huge difference in latency), while the customer has no choice in the equipment being used for a Lit Fiber install.
