Long Distance

Long Distance

Typical Applications: Connection outside of local calling area

Long Distance service can be broken into two major categories: Switched Long Distance and Dedicated Long Distance.

Switched Long Distance allows companies to choose a long distance carrier with their local telephone company. When a long distance call is placed, the carrier’s computer switches the call to the appropriate long distance company (AT&T, Sprint, Qwest, etc.). The prices for switched long distance have come down significantly over the last few years. Contact TelecomMedic today to determine if you are getting the most competitive switched long distance rates available

For Dedicated Long Distance, a dedicated circuit such as a T1 or DS3 is brought directly from the long distance provider into the business and your local provider no longer provides the switching service. This results in a greatly reduced long distance rate. There is a monthly fee associated with the dedicated circuit and the PBX must accommodate the circuit. Many companies that have large long distance requirements find that a Dedicated Long Distance solution is more cost effective in the long run.

International long distance rates are provided in both the switched and dedicated solutions (at a different rate than domestic long distance).

Whether it ends up being Switched Long Distance, Dedicated Long Distance, or taking advantage of wholesale long distance solutions, inexpensive long distance rates are available. So, depending on your business’ long distance requirements, your organization could potentially save a lot of money.
