I agree with Ted. In the end you are the Master Agents customer and if you don't make money than they don't make money. TED I like the idea of building a master agent "portfolio" Do you think this would affect the support that you get from the single master agent you work with now? The one thing I can say on the master agents side is that the indirect and direct channels internally at Verizon don't seem to communicate very quickly. I have run into similar problems as the one you have described here myself. It seems if Verizon doesn't talk internally than it leaves the master agent and agent at a roadblock.

I am to a great extent impressed with the article I have just read. I wish the writer of telecommedic.com can continue to provide so much worthwhile information and unforgettable experience to telecommedic.com readers. There is not much to tell except the following universal truth: The existence of universal truths is based on the non existence of cultural relativism. I will be back.

It sounds like you need a new Verizon master agent - one where you'll have a personal relationship with the ownership. If things aren't being done for your customers regardless of the carrier you're working with you need to be able to gripe directly with the person that can make the difference (usually the owner). keep in mind that you're the master agent's customer. If they lose you, they lose a customer. You might find that you get more respect if you do more of your business through them. I've only been a carrier agnostic agent for 3 years now and have all of my business through one master agent. When I gripe they listen because I am one of their largest customers. They know that I can start moving all of my renewals and new business over to a new master any day I want.

Long term I may begin placing new orders under a separate master group to diversify - like a diverse financial portfolio, it may not be best to have all of your eggs in one basket.

I have not seen anyone else follow yet. They are all using it as a sales tool against XO right now. But I am sure others will wait till it all calms down and follow suit.

Bill,

That's interesting. As an agent for XO I haven't seen this yet in the markets we serve but I'll be keeping an eye out for it. We have no customer activity in Chicago at this point. Do you know if any of the other CLECs in Chicago followed suit with this same pricing policy?

Great article, Bill. Curious to find out who this carrier is because the pattern might likely rear it's ugly head in other markets that have Flat Rate call billing but perhaps they will start looking for a new profit center and the customers will be on the short end of the stick. This could affect a lot of us agents if it happens in different ways throughout the country.
